.Auguste Norieri New Orleans, 1860-1898, "Lake Pontchartrain Clippers", oil on canvas, signed lower right, 26in. x 42 1/8in. E12000-18000 Provenance: Given by Norieri to one of his sailing partners, in whose family it has descended to the present owner. Note Norieri was a marine and portrait painter who received little recognition in his lifetime. he was a student of Andres Molinary and exhibited at the National Academy of Design 1885, the American Exposition 1885-86 and with the Artists' Association of New Orleans 1886-87 and 89-92 his work is in the collection of the Louisiana State Museum, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, The Historic New Orleans Collection and the Anglo-American Museum.
