A Chinese Bronze Figure of the Boy Immortal Han Xiangzi, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the young male figure modeled wearing a loose floral decorated robe tied at the waist over long trousers, his hair gathered in three knots, standing with one leg slightly raised while holding a flute to his mouth in both hands, height 5 1/4 in., mounted on a carved giltwood rockwork stand, overall height 6 3/4 in.
- Provenance: Provenance : New York Collection. Note: Han Xiangzi, the nephew of the Tang poet Han Yu, is one of the Eight Daoist Immortals and is often portrayed as a young boy with a flute. The figure offered here has the exceptional quality of appearing animated. With a slightly swayed stance, raised right foot, fingers raised in motion and expressive facial features, he appears to enjoy the music he plays.
