A Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Covered Lantern with French Gilt Bronze Mounts, 19th c., the porcelain of globular hexagonal form, pierced to each side with an openwork scroll panel, decorated with shaped floral and fruit cartouches on a pink floral and diaper ground, the cover decorated en suite, base with "Tablet of Honor" mark, overall height 15 1/2 in., overall width 13 1/4 in Note: According to William Cowper Prime in Pottery and Porcelain of All Times and Nations, (1878), p. 254, the Buddhist imagery or mark on the base of the porcelain, represented by the swastika enclosed in a lozenge with loops at the corners, is a symbolic one, called the "Tablet of Honor". Prime writes that "the tablet of honor is an imperial gift to an officer".
