A Chinese Silk Surcoat, late 19th c., the midnight blue silk woven with symmetrically arranged flori-form roundels enclosing a single crane in flight above a turbulent sea set with a descended moon, the sleeves banded in cream silk woven with a phoenix, dragon and bear picked out in bright polychrome and gold and silver couched threads, height 42 in., width 63 in.
