Description:

A Collection of Three Southern Cyanotypes, 19th c., including "New Orleans View, Riverfront with Sternwheelers", "New Orleans View, Canal Street" and "International & Great Southern Railroad Building", all unsigned; sights 5 in. x 7 1/4 in., 5 1/4 in. x 7 1/4 in., 4 3/4 in. x 7 1/4 in.; all attractively matted and framed.

  • Notes: Note: Cyanotypes are a photographic printing process discovered in 1842 using ammonium iron citrate and potassium fernicyanide. The practice expanded in America during the Civil War. Also known as Blue Tones, the prints are somewhat limited and Southern views are exceedingly rare. Their survivability rates are low due to the fragile paper used in the printing process. These three examples are excellent representations of rare 19th century Southern photography.
