A Fine American Aesthetic Carved Mahogany Bedroom Suite, late 19th c., attributed to Herter Bros., New York, comprising a half-tester bed, a side-lock chest and a mirrored dresser, all of architectonic form; the bed and dresser with sunflower and laurel bough crests, the chest with six drawers, bed height 99 in., length 78 in., width 58 in.; chest height 54 in., width 38 5/8 in., depth 21 3/8 in.; dresser height 90 1/2 in., width 54 in., depth 23 in., (3 pcs.)
- Notes: Note: The juxtaposition of sunflowers and laurel boughs is often used by the Herter firm with various degrees of naturalism. The motif is most readily seen on cabinets by Herter conserved by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta (1981.1000.51) Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, New York (SAH1.1.1384) and a fire screen from the Mark Hopkins residence, San Francisco, now in the collection of Margot Johnson.
