A Fine American Carved Mahogany Sideboard in the French Taste, late 19th c., attributed to Herter Brothers, New York, the mirrored superstructure with a shell-carved crest, shell and lozenge frieze, graduated bracketed shelves, vasiform spindle supports, conforming breakfronted base, with variegated rouge marble top over three drawers in the center flanked by small side drawers and shell-carved beribboned cabinet doors, molded base, melon feet, casters, retaining original cast bronze hardware, mahogany secondary wood, height 90 in., width 68 in., depth 24 in.~ Note: Locks stamped "G. Boyer Pat. Feb. 6 1872".
- Notes: Note: This sideboard exhibits several characteristics in construction indicative of the Herter firm: Fine small screws attach the drawer bottoms to the drawer backs; all structural panels are finely chamfered; and the small screws are used to secure the back panels.
