Description:

A Fine American Carved Walnut and Burl Walnut Library Table, c. 1875 Philadelphia, the figured burl rectangular top banded with Egyptianesque incised carving and having a distinctive molded edge; fitted with a pair of canted drawers on either side, raised on carved and turned paired supports with dolphin feet, found in untouched original state, once had a small presentation plaque in center of top height 29in., length 54in., width 33in. E3500-5000 Note: The canted sides of the top of this desk and the canted-front drawers illustrate the design characteristics found in much of the furniture of Daniel Pabst. The highly figured walnut veneer and stylized incising anticipate Pabst's penchant for elaborate geometric renderings of floral and plant motifs observed in Pabst's later work in the Aesthetic mode.
