A Fine American Classical Carved Cherrywood Poster Bed, early 19th c., Lower Mississippi Valley, flared tester, acanthus carved and turned posts, paneled mahogany headboard with baluster turned and acanthus carved rolling pin crest, vasiform legs, later brass ball feet, height 107 in., length 79 1/2 in., width 55 in. Note : Two well-known cherrywood tester beds from Louisiana collections incorporate rolling pin crests, proportionately turned posts and brass ball and ferrule feet similar to those seen here: one from the Tahvildari collection, the other sold as lot 129 at Bocage Plantation by Neal Auction Company, December 8, 2007 The carved posts and crest on this bed relate to the elements on a mahogany daybed of Louisiana origin, also sold from Bocage Plantation as lot 106 Reference: Holden, et. al.
