Description:

A Fine American Classical Carved Mahogany Pier Table, early 19th c., Philadelphia, the later marble top above a shaped frieze with long drawer flanked by short small drawers and raised diamond corners, winged griffon supports, conforming shaped plinth, flat scroll feet, height 35 in., width 46 in., depth 24 in.

  • Notes: Note: This table has distinctive elements also seen in the work of a number of Noted Philadelphia cabinetmakers. The lozenge blocks on the frieze of this table are similar to those on the secretary bookcase made by Anthony Quervelle for Rosedown Plantation. The key molding on the sides and brackets recalls those on a pair of chairs attributed to Richard Parkin from the collection of Carswell Berlin. The smoothly carved figural supports recall those on a pier table attributed to Quervelle, once in the collection of Palmer Brown. Reference: Gordon Smith.
