A Fine American Classical Carved Mahogany Sideboard, early 19th c., Philadelphia, backsplash flanked by cove and torus molded plinth with drawers, Corinthian columns, beveled drawers, distinctive fan and cornucopia cupboard doors, foliate lobed feet, casters, height 58 1/2 in., width 72 1/2 in., depth 27 in. Note : The distinctive fan carved panels on this sideboard relate directly to a design drawing by Anthony Quervelle conserved by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The monumental carved capitals flanking the case are nearly identical to those on a pier table made by Quervelle for the Bowlby family of Philadelphia. Reference: Boor.
