Description:

A Fine American Classical Inlaid Mahogany Card Table, c. 1830, Philadelphia, attributed to Anthony Quervelle, the foldover veneered sunburst top banded in rosewood, rounded frieze at front banded above and below in rosewood, rounded corners, raised on a circular faceted stem with turned collar, incurvate plinth with four well-carved acanthus paw feet, height 29.5in., width 35 in., depth 18 in. E3000/5000 Note: The attribution is made on the basis of related examples which can be found in The Magazine Antiques in series of articles by the late Robert C. Smith published in 1973 and 1974. The usage of radiating or segmented veneers, especially on tops of games and center tables, the design of a pillar on a faceted pedestal and the concave sided plinth and distinctive paw feet with gadrooned shell-form overhanging scrolls, are identical characteristics of Quervelle's work.
