A Fine American Classical Mahogany and Burled Ash Pier Table, c. 1820 Philadelphia, the original rectangular white marble top above a frieze with gilt bronze mount of floral design; the burled columns fitted with engine-turned capitals and bases, the rectangular mirror plate flanked by pilasters, the concave plinth raised on reeded melon turned feet, retaining an old surface, height 35 1/2, width 46 1/2, depth 21in. E6000-8000 Note: Several prominent early 19th c. Philadelphia cabinetmakers used burled ash, elm and maple to lighten the preponderance of mahogany in various classically inspired forms.
