Description:

A Fine American Classical Mahogany Extension Dining Table, early 19th c., attributed to Duncan Phyfe and Son, New York, the rectilinear pivoting top above a frieze concealing a pair of fold-down turned legs and extension rails which support the six original leaves, height 29 in., extended length 134 in., width 53 in., closed depth 26 in.

  • Notes: Note: The innovative "draw" table, with well-matched veneers of choice mahogany and finely rendered molded convex bosses on the leg terminals, is typical of the work of Phyfe and Son and their close competitors in the 1830s. Reference: An important group of furniture by Phyfe at Milford Plantation in South Carolina may offer an appropriate linkage to this dining table.
