A Fine American Classical Mahogany Youth Bed, c. 1810, Philadelphia or Baltimore, with baluster finial on canopy frame, paneled head and foot, turned spindle rails, one gated, turned and blocked stiles, gilt bronze bolt covers, attenuated turned legs, toupie feet, height 77 in., width 47 1/2 in., width 31 1/2 in.
- Notes: Note: A maple crib attributed to John Needles (Baltimore, 1786-1878) with turned stiles similar to those seen here is now conserved by the Winterthur Museum and installed in the Historic Houses of Odessa (acc. 1993.123). A c. 1799 mahogany crib similar to the bed offered here is also part of the original furnishings at Mount Vernon, installed in the bedroom of Nelly Curtis, Washington's granddaughter.
