A Fine American Classical Stenciled Rosewood Pier Table, early-to-mid 19th c., New York, the inset white marble top over an incurvate frieze with beaded molding and detailed stencil, distinctive barley twist supports with bronze collars, mirror back, incurvate stencilled plinth, melon feet; secondary woods: pine and poplar, height 40.5in., width 55 in., depth 21 in. Note: The use here of refined stenciled decoration including urns at the corners and a reflected pattern on the plinth at the mirror back is similar to that on a rosewood pier table by a New York maker from the William and Betsey Randall house at 1828 Courtland, New York, currently conserved by the Munson, Williams, Proctor Institute, and illustrated in Anna Tobin D'Ambrosio, Masterpieces of American Furniture from the Munson Williams Proctor Institute, pp. 42-43.
