A Fine American Federal Inlaid Mahogany Serpentine Front Sideboard, c 1790, possibly Baltimore, stepped molded top, a convex center drawerflanked by a pair of concave drawers, all with oval string inlays, above a pair of shell and string inlaid cupboards, one bottle-fitted, and a pair of center cupboard doors with circular string inlays on distinctive canted tapering legs with banded cuffs, southern pine and poplar secondary woods, height 39 in., length 63 in., depth 28 in. E7500/10000 Note: In adherence to English design vocabulary this sideboard very closely relates to such Baltimore cabinetmakers as William Camp. The use of oval and round string inlay with serrated shell, the overall and serpentine form and the highly distinctive canted legs bespeak of the finest design.
