A Fine American Federal Silk-on-Silk "Memento Mori" of the Rollins Family, c. 1800, by "Marietta Rollins AE 15" so marked on the oval black and gilt eglomise glass, presented in original carved gilt frame with paper label en verso "...Williams & Everett...Boston", the embroidery depicts two female mourners beside three Neo-Classical style tombs surmounted by urns and inscribed with the names, death dates, and ages of male children, all set in a landscape featuring a large weeping willow and a variety of leafy plants, worked delicately in satin stitch and tiny French knots, height 18.5in., width 21.5in.
