A Fine American Renaissance Carved and Ebonized Walnut Bedstead, late 19th c., attributed to John Jelliff, Newark, the massive arched headboard crested by a strapwork cartouche and bracketed by finial terms, the headboard and footboard with triple arcaded panels and rails centered by a boss, together with a Victorian era portrait of a young boy fitted for the headboard, height 97 in., mattress width 55 in., length 76in E12000-18000 Note: The Classical caryatid busts flanking the headboard of this example are nearly identical to those seen on many pieces of Jelliff seat furniture, including those on the arm supports of a sofa illustrated in Newark Museum, A Century of Revivals, 1882, p 45.
