Description:

A Fine American Renaissance Gilt-Incised and Inlaid Rosewood Parlour Cabinet, c. 1870, attributed to Herter Bros., New York, sarcophagus top fitted with a drawer, incurvate sides flanking a door inlaid with a floral panel, lightwood interior, conforming plinth, height 46 3/4 in., width 52 in., depth 19 1/2 in.

  • Notes: Note: The channel-cut back panels, tight construction and use of small screw reinforcements on this cabinet are indicative of New York prominent cabinetmakers of the 19th century. A cabinet with similar construction stamped by Herter and made for George Beale Sloan, now at the Brooklyn Museum of Art (acc. 76.63), is illustrated in Howe, et. al. Herter Brothers, Furniture and Interiors for a Gilded Age, p. 110, fig. 91.
