A Fine American Renaissance Walnut and Burl Walnut Parlor Suite, c. 1865, attributed to John Jelliff, Newark, New Jersey, comprising a sofa, two armchairs, and four sidechairs, the padded backrest with central medallion displaying a classical female mask, and ornamented with figured walnut bosses and palmettes, padded arms fronted by maiden heads, the upholstered seat raised on turned legs, sofa height 46in., width 72in., depth 27in. E4000-6000 Note: The Newark, New Jersey firm of Jelliff & Co. produced a variety of fine furniture in the 19th c.; most notable are the parlor suites which often incorporate Classical female heads.
