A Fine American Rococo Carved Mahogany Center Table with Pietra Dura Top, mid-19th c., Philadelphia, the original top of serpentine form and geometric design on conforming apron with foliate scrolls, cabriole legs, X stretcher, carved finial, casters, presented with a later conforming glass top, height 29 in., width 48 in., depth 30 3/4 in.

  • Notes: Note: The pietra dura marble top on this table is indicative of a tradition followed by Philadelphia cabinetmakers dating back to Anthony Quervelle. A center table bearing Quervelle's label conserved by the Metropolitan Museum of Art (acc. 68.96) also features an elaborate specimen marble top with sunburst and radiating inlay of a variety of stone.
