A Fine American Rococo Carved Rosewood Bureau, mid-19th c., bearing stenciled label of "T. Brooks, Cabinet & Upholstery, 12 Warehouse,... Brooklyn, N.Y.", the reticulated crest centered with strapwork cabochon over étagère shelves, mirrored cabinet doors, slant front writing surface, frieze drawer, cabriole legs, satinwood interiors throughout, height 75 in., width 37 in., depth 18 in.
- Notes: Note: Operating out of a Brooklyn workshop rather than the fashionable Broadway addresses of his Manhattan competitors, Thomas Brooks produced high-style furniture in the Gothic, Rococo, and Renaissance taste from the 1840's through the 1880's. He received a bronze medal for an étagère exhibited in the New York Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations of 1853 Reference: Sillman and Goodrich, World of Science, Art and Industry, pp. 12, 93 and The Official Awards of Juries for the New York Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations.
