A Fine American Rococo Carved Rosewood Center Table, mid-19th c., attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, serpentine white marble top, conforming skirt with seed pods and foliate clusters, cabriole legs in the form of dolphins joined by acanthus finial, fitted with brass casters, height 29 1/8 in., width 41 3/8 in., depth 31 1/8 in.
PLEASE NOTE: The shaped skirt with beautifully carved foliate decoration and the dolphin supports on this table are very similar to those on a well-known group of tables attributed to John Henry Belter, most notably a center table in the parlor at Rosalie, Natchez. Other tables from this group include tables in the Hurst, Service and Manney collections; Neal Auction Company lot 116, sold on April 16, 2002; and Neal Auction Company lot 268, sold on October 6, 2007.
