Description:

A Fine American Rococo Carved Rosewood Games Table, mid-19th c., attributed to Alexander Roux, New York, serpentine foldover top opening to a tooled leather playing surface, shell and acanthus cabriole legs and shaped apron, height 31 1/2 in., width 34 in., depth 17 in.

  • Notes: Note: In contrast with New York competitors J & J.W. Meeks and J.H. Belter, Alexander Roux approached Rococo Revival form with the eye of a Parisian ebeniste. Rather than a broad interpretation of the style, Roux produced finely made examples of restrained historicism, much in evidence in this lot.
