Description:

A Fine American Rococo Highly Carved Rosewood Marble Top Dresser, c. 1850, probably Baltimore, the arched mirror with pierced foliate crest, acanthus carved scroll supports, wave molding below; the inset marble top within a gadrooned border, two rocaille carved oval panelled drawers, a long drawer and concealed drawer on scalloped bracket feet, height 83 in., width 47 in., depth 23 in. E2500/3500 Note: The fine and intricate carving of this Rococo Revival dresser, the vertical "ears" prominent atop the mirror supports and the usage of rosewood through out are an interesting association with the well- known Gothic bookcase made for Enoch Pratt's library in Baltimore as illustrated #228, page 243 in Furniture in Maryland 1740-1940, Maryland Historical Society, Gregory R. Weidman.
