A Fine and Rare American Federal Mahogany and Flame Birch Chest-of- Drawers, c. 1800, North Shore Massachusetts, the bowed top with outset corners mounted by concentric bosses above four graduated drawers displaying highly figured veneer facings, the engaged reeded columns headed by relief carved eagles on a star-punched field, the ring-turned bulbous feet joined by scrolled brackets, resting on ball feet, height 42 in., width 44.5in., depth 20.25in. E10000/15000 Note: The finely carved usage of eagles flanking the case of this chest are part of a relatively small group of American furniture examples displaying the early patriotism of the 18th century republic. A keystone of this furniture, attributed to Samuel McIntire, a sofa is illustrated in The American Wing, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, pp. 138-139. pl. 206 and 207.
