A Fine and Rare Pair of Charles X Silver on Copper Candle Holders With Foliate-Etched Crystal Shades, thumb-grip handles, the bases stamped "Fougere" and "10 ME", c. 1830, height 11.25in., width 6.25in , depth 7.25in. E2000-2500 Provenance: Found in St. Martin Parish by Mr. Andre Olivier, early historian of French Creole and Acadian heritage. These candleholders are illustrated page 43 of "St. Martinsville, the Land of Evangeline in Picture and Story", published in 1950, and in The Magazine Antiques, April 1988, p. 907. These French candleholders appear to be rare survivors of the most refined lighting used by early Louisiana planters.
