Lot 211
A Fine Antique German Porcelain Table, late 19th century probably Meissen, the rectangular ebonized top supporting a continuous balustered gallery divided by floral decorated pedestals crowned with foliate gilt bronze mounts and surmounted by alternating figures and classical urns; the uprights centered by a nymph, the scrolled legs headed by putti, the porcelain glazed in pastel colors and profusely ornamented with applied flowers, height 39 in., width 24 in., depth 18 in. E12000/15000 Note: Fine tables of the 19th century were often embellished with porcelain plaques, and some furniture employed porcelain figures as surmounts and finials. Very few were made entirely of this material, and fewer survive today. Most were produced for great World Fairs such as the Paris Expositions of 1855 and 1867. This table employs the Meissen palette, pastel colors, applied floral d'cor and figures modeled after Kaendler, though it is unmarked.
