A Fine Chinese Famille Rose "Canton Enamel" Charger, probably Qianlong Period (1736-1795), the well finely enameled with a large roundel enclosing noble figures and their attendants enjoying leisurely pursuits on an elegant cliff-side garden terrace overlooking a mountainous shoreline in the distance, the cavetto with four oval panels enclosing chilong dragons reserved on a yellow ground with dense trailing vine decoration, the exterior sides and base further decorated with chilong dragons, height 2 1/4 in., diameter 17 1/8 in.
- Notes: Note: The Canton Enamel process begins with a metal object, usually copper, which is then covered with enamel (often white), fired, and then painted much in the same way a porcelain object would be. Originally developed in Limoges, France, this highly sought-after enameling technique was introduced into China through French missionaries during the 18th century.
