A Fine Colonial West Indies Rosewood and Marquetry Commode, late 18th-early 19th c., the serpentine top bordered with checkered inlay, the suppressed bombe case with two short drawers over two graduated drawers, each with inlaid escutcheons, on cabriole legs and canted drake feet, mahogany secondary wood, retains later brasses now removed otherwise in as found condition, attractive surface, height 35.5in. , width 44.5in. , depth 21 1-4 in. E5000-8000 Provenance: Descended in a South Texas family. Note: The top, drawer fronts, and sides are constructed of solid rosewood. The drawer sides and bottoms and the backboards are of mahogany. The commode's carved elements relate to a sideboard table illustrated in Cuban Elegance by Michael Connors, p. 61, fig. 56.
