A Fine English Renaissance Carved and Figured Rosewood Bronze-MountedValuables Table, c. 1870-80, the hinged top with carved molded edge opening to a satinwood-lined interior, gadrooned and acanthus-carved frieze with bead and reel molding beneath, the trestle base with bronze monopod herm supports connected by a rectangular stretcher withcarved molded top edge, on scrolled feet, the lock stamped "NETTLEFOLD/PATENT/T. MUNDY/AGENT" and "VR" beneath crown in two places, height 31 in., width 41 in., depth 22 in. E9000/12000 Note: Typical of the middle and late nineteenth century revivals, this tablecombines elements of ornamentation from several historical styles - here to very successful aesthetic effect. The bronze monopod supports,reminiscent of Thomas Hope's Regency interpretations of the Classical,are topped with heads derived from Continental Renaissance sources and flank Egyptianesque waterleaf carvings.
