A Fine Japonesque Carved Maple and Inlaid Center Table, c. 1875, attributed to Gabriel Viardor, top with incised poinsettia-like flowers, pearl-inlaid flowers and butterflies, scribed geometric details, skirt various Oriental motifs with two drawers, corner brackets, on scrolled legs ending in distinctive paw feet, pierced andcarved pagoda stretcher, height 30 in., width 39 in., depth 23 in. Hanks and Donald C. Pierce, illustrates on pg.89 a smaller table than this example being offered. Viardot's designs and executions are considered to be among the most sophisticated and perfect examples of the late 19th c. "chinois et japonais" genres combined with elements of "fantasie".
