Description:

A Fine Regency Brass-Mounted and Ebony-Inlaid Satinwood Secretary Cabinet, early 19th c., galleried shelf on a stepped cabinet with paneled drop-front drawer with fitted desk interior, two doors flanked by Pharaonic terms, toupie feet, geometric panels and inlay throughout, height 53 1/2 in., width 42 in., depth 21 in.

  • Notes: Note: After Lord Horatio Nelson's victory of the Nile in 1798 and the publication of Vivant Denon's Voyages dans la Basse et Haute Egypte in 1802, Egyptian motifs such as the terms on this desk proliferated in England. Regency tastemaker Thomas Hope sketched hieroglyphic designs from mummy cases and papyri that were often referenced in furniture and architectural elements of the period.
