Lot 577
A Fine Set of Eight Federal-Style Carved Mahogany Dining Chairs in the Hepplewhite Taste, branded A.H. Davenport, Boston and New York, each having a rectangular back with fluted tablet crest, reeded spindles and slightly curved seat rail, raised on reeded tapered legs ending in spade feet, upholstered in caramel colored leather. E4000- 6000 Note: Known for good design and splendid craftsmanship, the A. H Davenport Company maintained prestigious showrooms in Boston and New York supplied by workshops located in East Cambridge and Boston. The sophisticated application of a Hepplewhite-influenced design (after New York makers Slover and Taylor) (1703-1772) used in these chairs demonstrates the historical aesthetic of Davenport's clientele.
