Description:

A French Bronze Figure of a Greek Orator, called "Aeschines", late 19th/early 20th c., height 25 1/2 in., width 9 in., depth 7 1/2 in.

  • Notes: Note: This is a very handsome bronze reduction of a marble, 2.10 m. high, found at Herculaneum in 1779; it was moved from the Palazzo Reale at Portici to the Museo Nazionale in Naples in 1813. The marble now at Naples is a Roman copy of a Greek bronze of the 4th c. B.C. Reference: Haskell and Penny, Taste and the Antiques, New Haven, 1981, pp. 153-154, no. 10, fig. 79.
