A French Empire-Style Rosewood and Gilt Bronze Table, c. 1900, with rectangular bronze-mounted top above a plain frieze raised upon opposing female caryatids with folded arms, each side having an upright adorned with bronze foliate mounts, the central stretcher surmounted by an urn flanked by sphinxes, on a rectangular plinth, height 32.5in., width 47.25in., depth 27.5in. E6000-8000 Note: This form of this table is derived from the classical Antique, and inspired by the design of Percier and Fontaine. A similar table was supplied to Empress Josephine for Les Tuilieres by Jacob-Desmalter. Another related table by Jacob may be found at Chateau de Fontainebleau.
