Description:

A French Faïence Figure of a Lion, mid-18th c., probably Rouen or Nevers, with underglaze mark "G", naturalistically modeled and painted, height 6 1/4 in., length 5 1/4 in., depth 3 in. Note: losses to tail and rear left support base. The mark, however may well be that of Guillibaud of Rouen, W. Chaffers, Marks and Monograms (Los Angeles, 1946), pp. 204-206. Reference: See Grand Livre de la Faïence Française (Fribourg, 1986), color pl. 152
