A French Gilt and Patinated Bronze Commemorative Plaque, mid-19th c., depicting Napoleon, in an engine turned circular frame surmounted by a passe-partout ring, height 6 in. E150/250 Note: The miniature shows the famous meeting of Napoleon and the Russian Emperor Alexander I in Tilsit, East Prussia on June 25, 1807 after their governments had signed a truce days earlier. The two emperors met on a raft that was anchored in the middle of the nearby Ni'men River. In a luxurious pavilion, and accompanied by the Prussian King Frederick Wilhelm III, the creation of the Duchy of Warsaw was declared, hereby strengthening Napoleon's position for future military campaigns.
