A Good American Classical Mahogany Center Table, early 19th c., attributed to J. & J.W. Meeks, New York, the original Egyptian marble top above a molded skirt, raised on a faceted bulbous stem, an incurvate plinth ending in faceted scrolled feet, height 30 in., diameter 35.5in. Note: The faceted vasiform stem and plinth with scroll feet seen in this example are similar to those seen on two tables in the notable Joseph Meeks & Sons broadside, illus. 34 and 37 Reference: Wendy Cooper, Classical Taste in America 1800-1840, p. 211, pl. 168.
