A Good American Rococo Carved Rosewood Etagere Cabinet, c. 1850-1860 attributed to J. & J.W. Meeks, New York, with arched foliate carved crest, mirrored back, the scalloped shelves connected by turned spindles topped by finials, marble top serpentine base with drawer and cupboard flanked by shelves and turned stiles, on scalloped base with disc feet, height 95 in., width 55 in., depth 20 in. E6000-9000 Note: The turned shelf supports and stiles, the serpentine line of the cabinet case and the cabriole supports on the ‚tagŠre above are similar to those on an ‚tagŠre attributed to the Meeks firm and illustrated in Richard Dubrow, American Furniture of the 19th-c., p. 144. This ‚tagŠre also shares elements with a labeled Meeks etagere at the Newark Museum illustrated in Berry B. Tracy and Marilynn Johnson, 19th c. America, Furniture and other Decorative Arts, pl. 129.
