Lot 124
Description:
A Good Faience Potpourri Vase and a Boldly Modeled Rococo-Style Watch Holder, the former with reticulated neck and well-modeled tree trunk support, the latter with loss of former bird finials at top, both unmarked, vase height 5 1/2 in.; watch holder height 9 1/4 in., 2 pcs.
- Notes: Note: This potpourri vase, with its supporting branch, is closely paralleled by a Strasbourg example of the 1740s in the Musee de Sevres (inv. no. MNC.20759): Grand Livre de la Faience Française (February, 1986), p. 165, pl. 202; it, in turn, is based on prototypes from Chantilly or Mennecy. The second item in this lot, the watch holder, has certain connections with a similarly modeled and colored vessel in the Musée des Arts Decortifs, Paris (inv. no. AD 18077; ibid., p. 181, pl. 227), made at Niderviller in the 1760s.
