A Good Group of Three Autograph Letters Signed by William Miller Owen, comprising: ALS page one folded, dated "near Petersburg, July 14, 1864, to Col. Johnson, Richmond" introducing "my cousin Sergeant John Harris of the Maryland Battery C.S.A." and continuing "We are having the dullest time imaginable here, pounding away at each other morning and evening - Grant is ex-pounding the law of nations" and "We trust Early will apply the same dose to the good people of Washington"; together with an ALS, one sheet, two pages, dated "Petersburg 8 Aug '64", to "My dear Col.", in part "I am for the present 'hors de combat' having rec'd a token from Yankee sharpshooter on the 3rd in the shape of an ounce ball to my right cheek, he was kind enough to spare my nose which he only scraped" and "are we not going to carry the war into Africa? You would have supposed so if you had seen the "Ebonies" on the 30th - there was many a red bayonet that day"; together with an ALS, one sheet, three pages, dated "near Culpepper 8 June 1863, to Mrs. Jefferson Davis", in a poignant letter asking her help in obtaining a promotion to Chief of Artillery; ALSO INCLUDING an autograph note signed, dated "Appomattox, April 10, 1865", from J.C. Haskell, to Col. Owen, in part "I send up a sufficient number of passes (paroles) for your command including the 13th Va. Battalion, Washington Artillery and Donaldsonville Artillery..."; AND illegible order document. (5 items).
