Description:

A Good Regency Patinated Bronze Two-Light Argand Lamp, c. 1805, the underside stamped "Messenger" for Messenger & Co., London and Birmingham, the domical urn-shaped font mounted by Bacchus masks joining garland swags, each branch retaining a period and probably original cut and etched blown glass shade, the standard displaying a trio of cranes supported by an acanthine circular pedestal on a square plinth, previously electrified, height 21 in., width 16 in., depth 6 in. Note: The design for this lamp is derived from a candelabrum found at Hadrian's Villa and published by Piranesi, c. 1778.
