Description:

A Group of Five Good Paris Porcelain Apothecary Jars, c. 1874, all marked by Paris retailer and labeled "Dr. Figueroa" (Havana, Cuba), two sizes with different decorative schemes, the two smaller jars (height 5 in., diameter 3 in.) with a polychromed map of Cuba below scenic and floral decorated labels, the three larger ones (height 11 1/2 in., diameter 5 in.) having black-bordered labels framed by rose-filled cornucopia and intertwined snakes.

  • Notes: Note: Dr. Juan Fermin Figueroa, a Havana physician and pharmacist, ordered a suite of apothecary jars with Spanish labels from Paris in 1874: these jars. In 1910, Dr. Figueroa's son, Fermin Alvarez Figueroa matriculated from the New Orleans College of Pharmacy. He returned to New Orleans in 1940 and established the Airline Avenue Pharmacy, where these jars were displayed.
