A Group of Rare Photographic Images of the Cuban Agramonte Family, comprising an important and very fine Rufus Anson hand-colored, full- plate daguerreotype six-person portrait, c. 1853-60, the brass mat embossed "Anson 589 Broadway", in tooled leather-covered wood case; together with another fine Rufus Anson hand-colored quarter-plate daguerreotype of one of the female sitters in the previous photo, c. 1853-60, the burgundy velvet case lining inscribed Anson/589 Broadway/NY, in tooled leather-covered wood case; a half-plate tintype six-person portrait featuring a young Frank Agramonte, c. 1858, in tooled leather-covered wood case; a ninth-plate ambrotype of Frank Agramonte, in brass mat, the verso inscribed in ink "Frank Agramonte/13 years old/1858 Dec. 25" ("as is" condition); a sixth- plate ambrotype of a young Frank Agramonte in hat, c. 1860, in tooled leather-covered wood case; a ninth-plate daguerreotype of a young Frank Agramonte, c. 1860, the brass mat inscribed "Cary/371/Canal" [NY in tooled leather-covered wood case (missing lid); a sixth-plate ambrotype of "Boy with Violin", c. 1860 ("as is" condition), in pressed paper-covered wood case; a New Orleans carte-de-visite of an unidentified man, the verso with printed inscription "I Live & Die For Those I Love/Turner & Clark/Photograph/And Fine Art Gallery/No. 57 Camp St./New Orleans" and in pencil, "July 4, 1866"; and two tintypes of unidentified oil painting portraits, c. 1860, in brass mats (NO CASES) E2000-3000 Provenance: Decended in the family to Dr. Louis de Agramonte Gimbrede, a paleontologist who taught at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. Note: According to family history, the primary sitter in this group is Dr. Frank Agramonte (born c. 1845), an officer in the Cuban War of Independence (1895-1898). Agramonte was captured with an expedition from Costa Rica in the British schooner, "Honor". The captain of the vessel was killed; Agramonte was imprisoned in Havana for eight months.
