A Hyde and Goodrich Coin Silver Presentation Goblet, New Orleans, c. 1851, marked 'Hyde & Goodrich' in a rectangle, deep baluster form on a pedestal foot, Rococo revival repousse chased scroll cartouche with inscription on one side and a marshland duck hunting scene on the opposite side, inscribed 'Friendship/Presented to/ Julian Neville/ Sec. of Pont R. Road/ By/ J. Dirmeyer/ M.F. Cougot/ T.R. Longfield/ J McGulloch/ Clerks Pont. R. Road N.O./ 1851', height 6.375in., lip depth 3.75in., weight 6.5 troy ozs. Note: Julian Neville was a prominent New Orleans businessman who headed the City Bureau of Streets and Landings during the Federal occupation, and served as acting state auditor under Gov. J. Madison Wells. The Pontchartrain Railroad linked the MS. River and Lake Pontchartrain from 1831 to 1931 A closely related Hyde & Goodrich goblet is illustrated in Crescent City Silver, pl. 4, and described as a 'teaspoon cup'.
