Description:
A Large West or Central Africa Carved and Painted Wood Drum, possibly Baga, Guinea, or Bembe, Democratic Republic of the Congo, of tapering cylinder form raised on an openwork base of seven curved supports on a flared and fluted foot, deeply carved throughout with geometric designs, painted in red and white, the hide membrane secured to sides with wood pegs bound in raffia, height 45 3/4 in., top diameter 10 in. Note: Repairs to base.
