Description:

A Louis XV-Style Carved and Painted Maple Cylinder Bureau, attributed to Herter Bros., New York, with superstructure of three doors, cylinder lid centered by a floral spray, desk interior with a pull-out writing surface, kneehole configuration of drawers, cabriole legs, scroll feet, retains original crème peinte surface, height 50 7/8 in., width 38 in., depth 24 3/4 in.

  • Notes: Note: This desk is rare among Herter furniture in its strict adherence to Louis XV antecedents, with a painted surface, and historical form. The keyhole escutcheons on this desk relate closely to those on a Herter Brothers wardrobe at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (69.140) and a desk made for Jay Gould, also at the Met (69.146.3).
