A Louis XVI Style Ormolu Mounted Mahogany Commode a Vantaux, c. 1880after the model by Guillaume Benneman German d. 1811 and Joseph Stockel German 1743-1802 the molded original white marble top with rounded corners above a frieze enclosing three drawers central drawer with lion head escutcheon above a pair of wide cupboard doors with a central ormolu roundel cast in relief of a nymph playing the flute to a young satyr with scrolling acanthus flanking to each side the interior having six drawers applied with laurel wreath pulls the corners with fluted columns with acanthus capital each side applied with large sevres plaques on toupie feet with anthemion sabots and fircone feet
